Stories on Wood
My substrates are reclaimed old doors and wood, showcasing their history through their unique wear of color and character. I embrace this past through intuitive play, applying foundational layers of acrylic with my hands to follow the natural contours of the surface. As forms begin to emerge from these initial layers, I intuitively bring these unique beings to life. I then start the layering process using oil, cold wax, and other mediums to unveil the latest story waiting to be told.
For the paintings that have frames: I designed the frame profiles and worked with a local woodworker to get them just right. I then hand-finished each one to compliment the painting that they house.
