Gems Of Being

I’ve been on a long healing journey where I am discovering there are no ‘bad’ parts of Self (which is easier to say than to believe, I know). Yet exploring this theory in my mind I found myself also exploring this within the many layers found in my Abstractions on panel.

Over a couple of years ago, I came across a scrap of GoBoard and I knew immediately the substrate I have been looking for had been found. I then hand-cut and chip away, crafting organic shapes (not unlike the rocks and stones I find in nature) that I find pleasing. Next comes many layers of mark-making, cold wax, oil, and other mediums, building up and subtracting down, until each Part feels complete. As I work a name of a part of self emerges and I embrace it and give value to it with the delicate 18K gold leaf.
